American newspaper editor and leader of the Progressive movement who was a spokesman for Central America during the early part of the 20th century. He won a 1923 Pulitzer Prize for his editing "To a Worried Friend, " about the Great Railroad Strike in 1922.
He helped form the Kansas League of 1912 to protest the railroad and he was a reporter at the 1919 Versailles Conference.
