Yasser Seirawan started playing chess when he was 12 years old. At the age of 13, he became the champion of the Washington chess tournament. At the age of 19, he was the defending champion of World Junior Chess. He once competed with the famous player Viktor Korchnoi. Viktor Korchnoi invited Yasser Seirawan to Switzerland to tutor him so that he could compete against Anatoly Karpo.
Yasser Seirawan was the chief editor of Inside Chess magazine for 12 years. In 1999, Yasser Seirawan had an undefeated match against player Michael Adams in Bermuda. In 2011 and 2012, he was the champion of the Dutch Open Blitz.
