Who is Goalie Nguyen Van Viet?
Nguyen Van Viet is a young goalkeeper and captain of Song Lam Nghe An. He is the only player from Song Lam Nghe An to be called up by coach Kim Sang-sik. Vietnam prepares for two international friendly matches against the Indian team and the Lebanese team.
Nguyen Van Viet was born in 2002 in Tan Ky, Nghe An. He was born into a farming family with no one pursuing a football career. But since childhood, Viet has been passionate about football. Seeing that Viet has a passion for football and is also talented, his family is very supportive. His mother was always the one who brought him to the district cultural center to practice with his teammates. Every afternoon it's the same, every 20km going then 20km back. In 2012 and 2013, he and the district team played in the Nghe An 2 Children's Newspaper Cup. After 2 years of winning the championship, Viet caught the eye of the SLNA testing committee. After 2 weeks of training and testing at Song Lam Nghe An, he was only 11 years old when he was accepted.
At first, when he was young, he always liked to play in the upper position, but by chance he was able to catch the ball. The feeling of clearing the ball from the other team made him excited and he gradually played as a goalkeeper ever since. On the first day back at Song Lam Viet, I felt very homesick because I was still so young. But his passion for football and encouragement from his parents gave him more energy to practice. During his days in the SLNA youth team, Van Viet won a silver medal in the 2015 National U13 tournament and a bronze medal in the 2017 U15 National Cup. He also had the opportunity to be called up to U15 and U16 Vietnam. In 2017, he and the U15 Vietnam team won the Southeast Asian championship at that time. Viet was a reserve for Duy Dung of Hanoi.
In 2022, Viet was called up to SLNA's first team when Viet was new. 20 years old. Throughout 2022, Viet will only catch friendly matches and will not be registered once. But because he sees that he is still young, Viet continues to try and wait for another opportunity. Being promoted to the first team of SLNA Vietnam has allowed me to learn a lot from my seniors. Helping Viet gain more experience and lessons, his first match in the V. League was against Hong Linh Ha Tinh. At that time, goalkeeper Van Hoang was hurt and Van Viet had the opportunity to play instead and have a chance to express himself. After the V. League round, Van Viet was called by coach Philippe Troussier to focus on U23 Vietnam to compete for U23 Southeast Asia 2023. Although only 21 years old, the goalkeeper of Song Lam Nghe An played focused and boldly dominated the round. forbidden areas as well as good judgment and reading of situations. The important thing is that when entering big matches, Van Viet maintains confidence, does not get overwhelmed or fall into a passive position. So the coach trusts him a lot.
