National football team Viet Nam

Vietnam national football team is currently the team representing Vietnam in regional and international football tournaments. The team is managed by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF). The Vietnamese team is currently ranked 97th in the world, 17th in Asia and 2nd in Southeast Asia. Football was brought into Vietnam by the French in the 19th century, but due to many domestic conflicts, throughout the 20th century, Vietnamese football was significantly hindered. The first birth and development of Vietnamese football was rekindled in 1896 during the French colonial period. In the beginning, football was only played by merchants, civil servants and French soldiers. The French then encouraged the local Vietnamese to play this and some other sports. After that, football was spread to many other areas, mainly the Central and the North. On July 20, 1908, the Luc Tan Van newspaper reported a football match between two Vietnamese football teams. In 1925, Vietnamese doctor Pham Van Tiem published the first football manual and quickly attracted the interest of young Vietnamese. In 1928, some people established the General Department of Sports Annam in Saigon. In the same year, Vietnam went to play in Singapore. After this event, many local football clubs were established in both the North and the South. But it was not until after World War II that football clubs in the region began to become more organized. Up to now, the Vietnamese team has participated in many football tournaments in the region and continent and has achieved certain achievements. Vietnam has participated in the AFC Asian Cup three times, the first time was in 2007, and the best performance was in the quarterfinals in 2007 and 2019.

In the period from 2017-2021, Vietnamese football has witnessed the sublime performances of the golden generation of players, with the guidance of the coach Park Hang-seo.
