Prince Consort who married Queen Victoria, his first cousin, in 1840. He was instrumental in organizing the Great Exhibition of 1851 and was actively involved in a number of progressive causes, including including the abolition of slavery.
He was elected Chancellor of the University of Cambridge in 1847 and used his position to expand the curriculum to include subjects such as science and modern history.
