When Cat Marnell was 15 years old, she attended Marnell Lawrence Academy in Groton, Massachusetts. She was considered a good student but she was expelled before graduating at the age of 17 because of drug use. After finishing high school, she moved to New York and attended The New School in Greenwich Village to study fiction writing. While studying at The New School, she interned at a magazine "Beauty" until 2007, she became an effective assistant for Lucky newspaper. She then spent a month in rehab in a Connecticut camp, when she returned she became the editor of "Beauty" magazine and she worked for Lucky for two and a half years when she relapsed.
Then she went back to work and started working at XoJane, during her time here writing a public article about her drug use along with an article on drug use Emergency contraception has caused more or less controversy for public opinion. In June 2012, she wrote an article about her quitting smoking in the New York Post. Later, she was hired by Vice's owner to write for a column titled "Amphetamine Logic", after she went to rehab in Thailand she had the last articles for Vice magazine in September 2012 and a Posted in January 2013.
