Twentieth century Bangladeshi and Indian poet, intellectual, and communist activist. He edited the Bengali newspaper Amrita Bazar Patrika and was involved in the violent Naxalite-Mao movement.
In 1964, he became a member of the Marxist Communist Party of India.
