His mother died early, when he was 6 years old, his father also died. Growing up at the age of 16, he left his hometown of Hai Hau to study in the center of Hanoi.
Poet Vu Quan Chung married and had two sons. The first son is Professor - Mathematician Vu Ha Van who is teaching at Yale University (USA). The second son is Vu Thanh Diem, former valedictorian of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, now an expert at Google (USA).
