The headquarters of Puma SE is in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria, Germany. This is the 3rd largest sportswear brand in the world. The company was founded by Rudolf Dassler in 1948.
Year In 1924, Rudolf Dassler and his younger brother Adolf Dassler founded the company Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik (The Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory). After a period of working together, the relationship between the Dassler brothers tended to deteriorate. In 1948, they split, Rudolf founded Puma, and his brother founded Adidas. Rudolf Dassler's company was originally called Ruda, then changed its name to Puma. Puma's logo is a square and the animal jumps over the letter D. Puma designs featuring the Puma logo and the special "Formstrip" were introduced in 1958.
At the 1960 Summer Olympics, Puma paid German sprinter Armin Hary to wear Puma's clothes to compete in the 100m sprint final. . The German athlete won the gold medal while wearing Puma but then he wore an Adidas jacket during the medal ceremony. This was an incident that shocked the Dassler brothers.
Sportswear brand Puma became a public company in 1986. They were subsequently listed on örse München and The Frankfurt Stock Exchange in 1994. In 1989, Rudolf's sons Armin and Gerd Dassler sold their 72% stake in Puma to the Swiss enterprise Cosa Liebermann SA. In February 2007, the brand reported that its profits had dropped to €32.8 million. in the last quarter of 2006.
