In 1638, the delegation led by Giang Van Minh arrived at Yen Kinh (Beijing). When entering the court, Minh Tu Tong Chu Do Kiem (Emperor Sung Trinh) used the excuse "Because the old law did not have specific regulations on ordination, so we had to wait to look up the decree to honor it." , in order to prevent the recognition of the Later Le Dynasty and abrogate the diplomatic recognition with the Mac.
Chu Do Kiem arrogantly put forward an argument against "Dong Tru Kim Dai Di Luc" ie. "The bronze pillar is now green", with the implication that Ma Vien once defeated the Hai Ba Trung uprising, then buried a copper pillar with the curse that "During the bronze pillar died, Giao Chi destroyed", ie. "If the copper column is broken, Giao Chi (Dai Viet) will perish". It is implied that the Ming Dynasty is still in control of Dai Viet.

This couplet is seen as a slap in the face to Chu Do Kiem in front of court officials and embassies of other countries. At that time, King Minh was so angry that he forgot to act. He defied the law of relations and took revenge on Giang Van Minh by filling his eyes and mouth with sugar, and then having his stomach cut open. This incident happened on June 2, 1936. But Minh Tu Tong still respected his bravery and, fearing that Dai Viet would take revenge, had his body embalmed with mercury powder and brought his body back to Dai Viet. After his body was brought back to the country, King Le Than Tong and Chi Trinh Trang respected and paid homage to his casket, posthumously conferring him the post of public servant Ta thi lang, the title of Duke.

Currently, Giang Van Minh church in Mong Phung village has been recognized by the state as a national historical and cultural relic. His name was given to a street in Ba Dinh district, connecting with Kim Ma street.
