Best remembered for her series of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie children's books, this Australian writer and illustrator created the famous "baby gumnut" characters. Her later works include Bib and Bub: Their Adventures and Scotty in Gumnut Land. She wrote two popular Australian comic strips. Bib and Bub (which ran from 1920 through the late 1960's) and Tiggy for the brief shadow (which was published from 1925 to 1931)

In the early years of the twentieth century, she began working for the Perth, Western Australian Mail. She then lived in the UK for almost a decade, dedicating herself to the study of art and publishing her debut book, Introduction.
