The pinnacle of racing career before tragedy

In the 1990s, Zanardi was one of the best racing drivers in America. He won consecutive CART championships and quickly became a sought-after name.

Even though his time in F1 was not too long, his experience in this arena helped him improve his skills and reputation. After that, Zanardi returned to America and continued to play with stable performance.

Terrible accident in 2001 - turning point in life

In 2001, while participating in a CART race in Germany, Zanardi had a serious accident that severed both legs. This is considered one of the most horrifying accidents in racing history.

Many people believe that his career – even his life – is over. But in fact, it was the starting point for another extraordinary journey.

Rebirth: From F1 racer to Paralympic legend

Not accepting his fate, Zanardi switched to handcycle competition and quickly rose to the top.

He won:

• 2 silver medals

at the 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Games.

Not stopping there, Zanardi also:

• Set an incredible performance at the Ironman Triathlon

Back on track: Living symbol of energy

In 2019, Zanardi caused a stir when he returned to the US to compete at the Rolex 24 at Daytona with the BMW team – without a prosthetic leg.

In the racers, there is also F1 champion Fernando Alonso, but it is Zanardi who receives the greatest respect.
