Modernist writer and art collector who drew such famous authors and artists as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, and Pablo Picasso to her Parisian intellectual circle. Her numerous literary works include Three Lives, Tender Buttons, and The Making of America.
She is best known for the quote, "A rose is a rose is a rose is a rose." She is also credited with the popular term, "The Lost Generation."

She attended Radcliffe's school in the 1890s and experimented with line-of-sense writing, which would develop into an important element of her modern literary style. She began medical school at Johns Hopkins University, but dropped out to move to Europe.

Family life info

His life partner, Alice Toklas, was the subject of Stein's famous 1933 memoir, Alice B. Toklas' Autobiography.
