Republican governor of South Carolina from 2003 to 2011 who made national news in 2009 when he went missing for six days and later confessed to having an affair with an Argentinian woman. However, he overcame his adultery scandal in 2013 when he was elected as a congressman for South Carolina's 1st district.
He was criticized in 2011 by the South Carolina General Assembly alleging that he had misused state tourism funds to engage in an affair with a woman from Argentina.
