Who is Composer Vivian Fine?
During her nearly seven-decade career as a composer, she wrote the chamber opera Women in the Garden (1978), the contradictory pieces The Great Wall of China (1946), the Concertante sections for piano and orchestra and more than a hundred other famous musical works.
She is the founder and vice president of the Union of American Composers and was the subject of the 1999 Heidi Von Gunden biography of the music of Vivian America.

Young / Before famous

When she was just five years old, she received a scholarship to piano at Chicago Musical College. Eight years later, she began her career as a composer, and, at sixteen, debuted her work in both New York and Chicago.

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, she later settled in Vermont, where she taught at Bennington College until her death in an auto accident.
