Bao Dai, whose real name is Nguyen Phuc Vinh Thuy, is the 13th and last king of the Nguyen Dynasty in Vietnamese history. He was the only son of King Khai Dinh. However, his status was still questioned when King Khai Dinh was considered impotent and did not like to be close to women.
April 28, 1922, Vinh Thuy was 9 years old and was established by her father as the Eastern Palace of the Crown Prince. On June 15 of the same year, he and his father went up to the Cannon to enjoy a merchandise exhibition in Marseille, France. In June of the same year, he was adopted by the couple, former Ambassador to Central Vietnam - Jean François Eugène Charles and sent to study at Lycée Condorcet, then studied at Sciences Po (École libre des sciences politiquesEcole libre des sciences politiques /i>) in Paris. In February 1924, he returned to the country to attend the Fourth of July celebration of King Khai Dinh, then returned to France to continue his studies in November.

After 10 years of studying in France, on August 16, 1932, he took the train D Artagnan back home. On September 19, he issued Edict No. 1 declaring his resignation and affirming the monarchy of the "Dai Nam Dynasty". This document annuls the "Convention" dated November 16, 1925, which was established shortly after King Khai Dinh's death.
He established the House of Representatives to present his wishes to the house. King and French protectorate officials, and at the same time allowed the Tonkin Advisory Council to represent the Southern dynasty in cooperation with the protectorate. In December 1933, he went to the North to visit the people. On March 20, 1934, he married Marie Thérèse Nguyen Huu Thi Lan and ordained her as Queen Nam Phuong. This is an exception, because since the time of King Gia Long, the king's wife was only granted the title of Royal consort, After her death, she was posthumously crowned Queen. Bao Dai was the first king to abolish the concubine and concubine system. This marriage also met with many objections because Queen Nam Phuong was a Catholic and had French nationality.
After the Japanese coup d'état in France, the administrative apparatus of the French colonialists dissolved. disbanded, that's why the new government set new requirements and the Vietnamese Empire was born in this situation. On March 11, 1945, Bao Dai met the supreme adviser in the Japanese government, Ambassador Yokoyama Masayuki at Kien Trung Palace to sign the "Declaration of Vietnam's independence", which contained the declaration content. annulled the Treaty of Patenôtre signed with France in 1884. In this proclamation, King Bao Dai also annulled the unequal protection and protection treaties with the French Empire from the past.
Date April 7, 1945, Bao Dai signed Decree No. 5 to approve the composition of the cabinet Tran Trong Kim. On May 12 of the same year, the Trung Ky House of Representatives was dissolved. In June, the government of Tran Trong Kim adopted the new national name of the Empire of Vietnam.
March 1945 was the time when Vietnam was falling into a state of chaos due to a large gap in political rights. Japan is fending off the attack of the Anglo-American allies. Neither the court of King Bao Dai nor the government of Tran Trong Kim had enough political strength and prestige to control the situation at that time. After the August 1945 revolution succeeded, the Viet Minh forced the Vietnamese Imperial government to hand over power. Faced with this situation, the great mandarin Pham Khac Hoe advised Bao Dai to abdicate. On the morning of August 23, the two envoys of the Viet Minh were Cu Huy Can and Tran Huy Lieu has arrived at the Hue palace. At the request of these two envoys, Bao Dai read the Declaration of his abdication on the afternoon of August 30, in front of Ngo Mon Gate, and then handed over all the royal seals, swords and national treasures to Mr. Tran Huy Lieu. . After abdicating, he was treated very well by the Vietnamese government. He was invited by the President of the Provisional Government of Vietnam to be the "Supreme Advisor of the Provisional Government of Vietnam".
