He and his brothers and Anathema collaborators, Vincent and Jamie Cavanagh, were born and raised in Liverpool, England, by working-class parents. The brothers' song, "One Last Goodbye," was written in memory of his mother, Helen Cavanagh, who passed away in late 1990.
