Thomas Edison full name is Thomas Alva Edison, is a scientist, a businessman, who invented many devices that influenced human life in the twentieth century. He was nicknamed "The Wizard of Menlo Park" by a newspaper reporter, he was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of commodity production to the creative process, that's why, he is considered the first inventor to create an industrial research room.
In his childhood, Edison was famous as a curious boy. Due to poor health, he had to go to school late. When he went to school, his mind was always drowsy and confused about everything around him, wanting to learn about them thoroughly. He was also expelled from school for his mischief. His mother was also a teacher, so she taught her children herself. Edison's life in Port Huron was bitter but also a little sweet. He sold newspapers and sold scissors on trains. Because of the gift of saving Jimmie Mackenzie from crashing into a train, Edison was sponsored by Jimmie's parents and taught him to be a telegraph operator. Around this time he began to work on telegraph-related devices, including ballot counting machines. On October 28, 1868, he applied for his first patent, which was an electronic vote counter.
Edison's first invention was a dual telegraph that could transmit two messages at the same time. Not long after, he improved the machine into a triple, quad and multi-load machine. The private telegraph was sold to Western Union for $10,000. After working as a telegraph operator for a while, he became bored with the job, and then quit to move to New York in the hope of earning extra money to pay yrar for his experiments. . There, he and some of his friends opened a small company specializing in electricity and telegraphs. Edison's second invention was the telegraph system for receiving bank exchange messages. With this invention, he collected a large amount of money. All the money earned, Edison put all of it into the experiments that followed.
In 1877, he invented the phonograph, which was the first invention that made him famous. The users of the phonograph couldn't believe how miraculous this invention was and considered it a miracle. It was also from here that he began to be called with the nickname "The Sorcerer" in the place where he lived. During the 1880s, he improved the phonograph to create the complete phonograph.
A major invention of Edison was the Menlo Park laboratory built in New Jersey. It is also the first human research institute, established with the purpose of creating improvements in technology. It was also here that many of his inventions were put into practice.
In 1879, he founded Thomson-Houston. In 1890, he founded his own company called Edison General Electric. Two years later, Edison General Electric and Thomson-Houston merged into one and named Edison General Electric and Thomson-Houston, the forerunner of today's GE Electric Corporation.
Edison is considered one of the most innovative inventors in history. He owns 1,093 US patents under his name, and many patents in France, UK, Germany, totaling about 1,500 patents worldwide.
