Edward William Bok is a Dutch-American journalist and former editor who won the gold medal of the Academy of Social and Political Sciences and the 1921 Pulitzer Prizes and was nominated for the American Peace Prize. in 1923. During the years 1889 to 1919, he gained notoriety as the editor of the longtime editorial magazine Ladies' Home Journal Bok that helped shape American tastes in the early 20th century, he settled social issues such as women's suffrage and taboo topics such as venereal disease. Bok grew up in Brooklyn, New York, when his family was quite poor, he had to work part-time at a bakery to support his family.
In 1882, Edward Bok began working with Henry Holt at "Henry Holt and Company" - an American book publishing company in New York. From 1884 to 1887 Bok was editor of The Brooklyn magazine, and in 1886 he founded the Bok Syndicate Press.
In 1889, he moved to Philadelphia where he founded the Ladies Home Journal with the editors of the Ladies Home Journal. magazine Louisa Knapp Curtis,. In his early editorial writings, the magazine attracted a million readers and greatly influenced readers for the information and ideas in his writings. then his autobiographies were published.
In 1919, after thirty years in the magazines, Bok retired.
In 1927, Boks embarked on the construction of the Bok Tower Gardens, near his family home in Mountain Lake Estates, Lake Wales, Florida, and became a conservation area and is listed as a National Historic Landmark as a National Historic Landmark.
