Although he lived briefly in Arlington, VA and grew up in Bethesda, MD with his family, he considers himself a long-term resident of the district, where he graduated from high school. After graduating from high school, Beveridge began his journalism career as a "copyboy" at the city's Evening Star newspaper in 1940 while continuing his education at George University. In 1942, he enlisted in the US Army and began writing press releases and later became a reporter, editor, editorial writer and inspector. In 1958, Beveridge wrote a series of articles on urban development and development in Washington and Maryland and Northern Virginia's suburbs and made it into the film "Metro, City of Tomorrow",
In 1963, He started a new job as the star's editorial director of local affairs, a job that lasted 11 years. He later returned to the newsroom as assistant editorial manager for local news and became Star's first inspector. In 1981, he retired to return to his family.
