Richard Blackwell is an American journalist, fashion critic, radio and television host, artist, and former actor. As a teenager, Blackwell began performing in theaters and appeared in the 1935 Broadway original produced by Sidney Kingsley's Dead End. He later moved to the West Coast and acted in films under the name "Dick Ellis" by Warner Bros. Studio in Burbank, California. In 1944, he returned to the stage as Richard Blackwell however, finding himself talented in fashion design while making stage costumes for his clients. By 1950, he had launched his own clothing brands like Valentino, Versace, Richard Tyler and became an important designer. In the 60s, he introduced his fashion on television and created great success when his designer clothes were sold in large quantities at high prices with the existence of the "House of Blackwell" brand. for nearly 2 decades until the 1980s the brand ended.
During his years as a designer, he was the writer of the "Ten Worst Dressed Women List" article that appeared weekly in the magazine. From then on, he became a fashion journalist for 47 years. Besides, he was also a news writer for "The Globe" and "Lifestyle" magazine
Later he switched to radio and television, it can be said that Blackwell was a pioneer in the field. television fashion industry as a designer and critic. He appeared regularly on ABC, Port Charles, the KABC and KIEV radio shows that air daily on Los Angeles. The most typical of this period is that he became the main presenter in KCOP becoming the first program in history. After that, he often participated in many shows such as The Mike Douglas, The Tonight Show, Best Of The Tonight Show as a commentator.
In 1997, a pedestrian street in Palm Springs, California was named after him.

Blackwell is gay, he was in a long-term relationship with Robert Spencer for 60 years. In 2001, he was once diagnosed with paralysis that affects his vision. After 6 months of treatment, he returned to a normal life.
