Venerable Thich Thanh Cuong was born and raised in a family of employees in Vinh Phuc. From a young age, his health was not good, he suffered from dysentery which was difficult to cure. During a summer vacation, his father took him to the temple. The old man said that "My grandchild was born late, so it was difficult to raise". After that, the grandmother brought the teacher to "sell" him at the door of the Monsignor's house. As if there was a strange miracle, Venerable Thich Thanh Cuong was completely cured of dysentery and his health was also better. The next year, when he returned to visit the temple, the monk suddenly asked "Are you going to become a monk?". Even though he didn't know what it was to become a monk, he still nodded repeatedly "Yes! Master let me follow". Then, the monk introduced him to Duyen Khanh pagoda (Dong Ky commune, Tu Ky district, Hai Duong province). Venerable Thich Thanh Cuong ordained on the full moon day of July 1984 when he was just 13 years old. The abbot let him finish high school and then attended Han-Nom University in Hanoi. In the evening, he also attended the Hanoi Conservatory of Music.
In 1989, Venerable Thich Thanh Cuong attended the Buddhist Intermediate School of Hai Duong Province and then entered the Vietnam Buddhist Academy.
At the age of 20, Venerable Thich Thanh Cuong was appointed as Chief of the Office of the Buddhist Intermediate School of Hai Duong Province.
On March 18, 1996, Venerable Thich Thanh Cuong was appointed by the Buddhist Church of Hai Duong Province as the abbot of Cuong Xa Pagoda. When it first came, Cuong Xa Pagoda had a very large campus of 7,000 square meters, but only had three simple and small compartments. Venerable Thich Thanh Cuong and his relatives went everywhere to buy coal slag and lime to build bricks to build the entire wall of the temple campus, build a village gate, restore the roof of the communal house...
In 1999 , Venerable Thich Thanh Cuong built 5 pavilions of the model church.
In 2009, Venerable Thich Thanh Cuong broke ground and called on benefactors to restore and build Cuong Xa Pagoda on the old ground, with a total cost of up to 21 billion VND. The newly built Cuong Xa Pagoda consists of 5 front halls and 3 harem compartments, each 4.5 m wide. The entire wall is built of stone, each stone is 40cm long, 30cm wide, 30cm thick, and weighs 80kg (each stone is engraved with a word "swastika", and is painted with gold emulsion, worth 500,000 VND/ tablets). Three rows of stones from the ground up, each stone is created with a lotus image. From the 4th row to the roof, each block is engraved with a word "Van". Cuong Xa Pagoda set a record as the first temple in Vietnam with a system of stone walls carved with swastikas with 3, 998 characters.
In 2014, Venerable Thich Thanh Cuong was disciplined for posting a photo of "unboxing Iphone 6" and commenting on using a Vertu phone (600 million VND) on Facebook, damaging the reputation of the church. Venerable Thich Thanh Cuong admitted his mistake before the Standing Board of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Hai Duong province and promised to delete all offensive images posted on Facebook. Venerable Thich Thanh Cuong received a warning.
