Victor Hugo full name is Victor Marie Hugo, is a famous poet, writer, playwright all over the world. He was a famous French Romantic. He is also a typical politician of the 19th century. He occupies a very important place in the history of French literature. His most resounding successes are the two works "Les Misérables" and "Notre Dame de Paris" which have made Victor Hugo a public novelist.
Victor Hugo's father was a court general named Joseph Léopold Sigisbert Hugo. He has two older brothers, Abel Joseph Hugo and Eugène Hugo. In 1813, he returned to Paris to live with his mother when his parents separated. In September 1815, he studied at the Cordier School. According to Adèle Hugo, it was around this time that he began composing poetry. He taught himself rhyme and law. Encouraged and supported by his mother and brother, he expressed his ambition to become Chateaubriand or nothing at all.
In 1821, the Odes poetry collection was published when he was only 19 years old, with 1500 copies published. Consume within 4 months. King Louis XVII offered Victor Hugo a scholarship of 1,000 francs per year.
In 1821, he married his childhood friend Adèle Foucher. They had 5 children: Léopold, Léopoldine, Charles, François-Victor and Adèle.
On February 7, 1841, Victor Hugo became a member of the French Academy, after four failed attempts. In 1845, he began to follow a political path. In 1848, he served as a member of the Constituent Assembly. He condemned the coup d'état of December 2, 1851 by Prince Louis-Napoléon. Because of that, he was forced into exile in Belgium, followed by coups in Jersey and Guernesey.
During his time in exile, he continuously produced new works such as: : les Contemplation (1856), les Châtiments (1853), les Misérables (1862)- a work that was warmly welcomed by the public. In 1870, he returned to Paris. In February 1871, he was elected to the French parliament. In 1876, he was elected to the position of senator. On May 22, 1885, he died of congestive heart failure.
Victor Hugo made great contributions to the innovation of theater and poetry. He was admired by his contemporaries. His political and moral choices, and famous literary works, made him a prominent figure of that era.
