Dalton Trumbo full name James Dalton Trumbo, is a screenwriter and novelist. He wrote the screenplays for the films: Roman Holiday, Exodus, Spartacus and Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo.
Dalton Trumbo started his career in the early 1930s. During this period he had many articles, many stories printed and published. published in mainstream newspapers, including the Saturday Evening Post, Vanity Fair, McCall's Magazine and the Hollywood Spectator. In 1934 he was appointed managing editor of the Hollywood Spectator. He then moved to work at Warner Bros. studio.
In 1935, he published his first novel, "Eclipse". This is a novel written in the genre of social realism, which has caused much controversy in the author's own hometown. Since 1937 Trumbo has been working in cinema, but he still regularly writes prose works. Trumbo's anti-war novel "Johnny Got His Gun" won the National Book Awards: Best Original Book of 1939.
In the late 1930s and early 1940s Trumbo became became a famous and highest-paid playwright in Hollywood with $4,000/week after handing over the script and earning about $80,000 in a year. His works from this period include: Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo, Our Vines Have Tender Grapes and Kitty Foyle. Trumbo received an Oscar nomination for "Writing Adapted Screenplay".
Dalton Trumbo died on September 10, 1976 in Los Angeles, California, United States. After Dalton Trumbo's death, the image of him working in a bathtub was molded into a statue and placed in front of the Avalon Theater on Main Street.
