Who is Poet John Gay?
An English poet and dramatist, he was most famous for his 1728 work, Beggar's Opera, which featured the characters of Captain Macheath and Polly Peachum. His other famous works include Acis and Galatea, Polly, and Three Hours After Marriage.
His sequel to the Beggar's Opera was banned from production by members of the British government who recognized themselves as the object of satire from the original production.
