"Verbs." During the 1920s and again in the early 1930s, this Republican politician served as Governor of Pennsylvania. Also a forester, he was notably the first Chief of the United States Forest Service, a position he held from 1905 to 1910.
After its establishment and as president of the National Conservation Commission, he launched an unsuccessful Pennsylvania campaign for a Progressive Party seat in the United States Senate.

Born in Simsbury, Connecticut, to wealthy businessman James Pinchot and New York heir to the Mary Eno estate, he later settled in Pennsylvania with his wife Cornelia Bryce and son Gifford Pinchot Bryce.
