At the end of the following year, he worked as Deputy Secretary of the Inter-regional Party Committee of Inter-zone 3. In 1951, he was elected to the Party Central Committee, directly held the position of Secretary of the Inter-zone Party Committee, and concurrently held the position of Chairman of the Administrative Resistance Committee. Inter-zone 3 and Political Commissar of Inter-Region 3 Command. Since 1954, he has held the position of Chief of Office of the Party Central Committee. In October 1956, he was elected to the Politburo.
He was a member of the National Assembly for the courses II-VII. In 1987, because of his declining health, he applied for retirement. On August 16, 1989, he died in Hanoi. His body was interred at Mai Dich Cemetery - Hanoi. To commemorate his merits for the country, the People's Committee Hai Duong province cooperated with the People's Council of Hai Duong province. Provincial people built Le Thanh Nghi Memorial House in Gia Khanh commune, Gia Loc district. His name was given to a street in Hai Ba Trung district - Hanoi.
