Le Duc Tho, whose real name is Phan Dinh Khai, is a Vietnamese politician who used to hold the position of Head of the Central Organization Department, in charge of the personnel department of the Communist Party of Vietnam from 1956 to 1982. is considered an important figure in the acquisition of power by Le Duan. He received the Nobel Peace Prize and Henry Kissinger in 1973, however, he refused because Vietnam was not yet at peace. That is also the only Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Vietnamese people so far.
In 1930-1936 and from 1939-1944, Le Duc Tho was imprisoned twice by the French colonialists for his corruption. participate in revolutionary activities. After being freed in 1944, he returned to Hanoi to operate and was directly in charge of the Tonkin Party Committee. In the same year, he became a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. In 1948, he went to the South to hold the position of Deputy Secretary and Head of the Organization Department of the Southern Party Committee until 1954, when the Geneva Agreement was signed. In 1955, he was elected to the Politburo of the Vietnam Workers' Party.
In 1968, he served as Deputy Secretary of the Central Committee of the Southern Department for a short time. Until May and May, he became a special advisor of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam delegation at the Paris Conference, the content of the conference discussing ending the war and establishing peace in Vietnam. From 1956-1973 and from 1976-1982, he held the position of Head of the Central Organization Department. In this position, he was the creator of the "anti-Party review" case, which arrested many revolutionaries and dissidents with the Party in the period from 1967-1973.
At the end of 1977-January 1979, he was assigned by the Politburo to be in charge of the Special Working Committee. In 1980, he held the position of Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat, directly in charge of the organization. In October 1980, he held the position of Chief of Special Political Security. In March 1983, Le Duc Tho was the Secretary in charge of Private Affairs, Internal Affairs and Foreign Affairs, and Chairman of the National Defense Committee. In 1986, he was appointed as Head of the Personnel Subcommittee of the 6th Congress. From December 1986, he was elected as an Advisor to the Central Committee of the Party.
Le Duc Tho is considered a giant diplomat of Vietnam. He is also a poet with a number of works such as "On the Roads", a collection of poems published in 1956, "Road of a Thousand Miles", a collection of poems published in 1977, "Diary of the way to the frontline" a collection of poems published in 2016. 1978, "Poetry of Le Duc Tho" was published in 1983.
He passed away on October 13, 1990, at the age of 79. His name was given to a street near My Dinh Stadium - Hanoi.
