British archaeologist whose work in the Gorge Olduvai in Africa was important in the evolutionary development of humans. Despite being a devout Christian his faculty was nonetheless based on Darwin's theory of evolution.
When Britain went to war in 1939 he was drafted by the Kenyan government to work in African intelligence, where he was on regular police investigations.
