He was born in San Jose, California, and raised primarily in India. He comes from a "movie family." His father is Akkineni Nagarjuna, and his mother is Amala Akkineni. His younger brother, Naga Chaitanya, is also an actor. His paternal grandfather was Akkineni Nageswara Rao.
