Who is Chess Master Tu Hoang Thong?
Tu Hoang Thong is a Vietnamese chess grandmaster. He holds the record of the youngest champion chess player in Vietnam.
He started learning to play chess at the age of 9, at Children's Culture House Ho Chi Minh City. In February 1982, he started competing, the first prize was the Tuoi Tre newspaper. In 1983, Tu Hoang Thong attended the Vietnam-Soviet Youth exchange association, he had a draw with Maia Chiburdanidze, the women's world champion at the time. In October of this year, Tu Hoang Thong made a surprise when he won the first championship at the National Phu Dong Health Association for the U15 youth. In 1986, Tu Hoang Thong won consecutive championships at the national A2 and A1 ranks. In 1987, he continued to win this tournament.
In 1992, Tu Hoang Thong was conferred the title of grandmaster and in 1999 was conferred the title of grandmaster. In 1991 and 1992, Tu Hoang Thong won the runner-up prize at the Asian Youth Championships in Dubai and Qatar. In 1990, for the first time, Tu Hoang Thong represented Vietnam at the Chess Olympiad. After that, he continuously participated in this tournament from 1990-2008 with a total record of 51 wins, 29 draws and 26 losses. In 2001, Tu Hoang Thong won two gold medals in individual and team tournaments at the first Southeast Asian chess championship. In early 2014, he became the defending champion of the Australian Chess Championship in Blitz.
Tu Hoang Thong has been involved in training since 1997, at good schools and clubs. at private house. He was invited by FIDE Secretary General, Ignatius Leong to teach students in Singapore. He is the first Vietnamese to have this honor. Since 2005, tired of working as a hired worker in a foreign country, Tu Hoang Thong cherished the plan to open a chess class for children. In 2009, he married hpopwj with his twin brother who is also a chess player named Tu Hoang Thai, founded the chess school Smartchess Training School.
