He earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of South Florida in 1970. After he moved to Los Angeles, he began developing his comedy while hanging out at The Comedy Store, a popular club sound on the Sunset Strip.
He was divorced twice and had one child from each of his marriages. His brother Ron Gallagher also smashed watermelon with professional mallets until he sued him.
