Who is Composer Fazil Say?
Prolific and controversial composer, greatly inspired by the folklore and traditions of his native Turkey. He was commissioned by the 2011 Schleswig-Holstein Festival Musik to compose a clarinet concerto based on the legacy of the Persian poet Omar Khayyam. It was performed by Sabine Meyer.
He became one of a long line of artists to receive a 10-month prison sentence suspended from an Istanbul court for allegedly insulting Muslims and Islam on Twitter.
