Japanese composer who created scores for the 1997 animated film "Princess Monoke" and the 2001 animated film "Spirited Away." He is known for combining classical European style with Japanese classical music scores for animated films such as Castle in the Sky, which won the Animage Anime Grand Prix in 1986.
His most fruitful collaboration was with the anime Hayao Miyazaki with whom he worked on 'Kiki Delivery Service' since 1989, 'Porco Rosso' since 1992, ' and 'The Wind Rises' from 2013.
