Broadway musician who won two Tony Awards for Best Conductor and Musical Director in the early 1950s. He was the founder of BMI Lehman's Engel Musical Theater Workshop in New York.
He has been writing music for Harold Rome on "Call Me Mister" since 1946, for which he won a Tony Award. He also conducted the premiere of many operas.
