Since childhood, Tran Kiet Tuong has been exposed to Southern songs and folk songs, he also showed his passion for music very early. He started learning to play the pliers and mandolin by himself at the age of 12.
At the age of 20, he went to Phnom Penh, Cambodia to teach.
During the Resistance War against the French, he always carried the mandoline along the roads of the South. That's why he was called by everyone's affectionate name "Mandolin Wall".

His wife is a Cambodian overseas Vietnamese named Tran To Linh. She is a dressmaker. The couple gave birth to two children, the first daughter is Mrs. Tran Thanh Thao, the piano teacher of the school. Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music and mother of pianist Hue Huong. The son is singer Tran Thanh Binh.
