Musician Trong Bang's full name is Nguyen Trong Bang. He has held positions such as Director of Hanoi Conservatory of Music, General Secretary of the Vietnam Musicians Association, Member of the National Council for Compiling the Vietnam Encyclopedia, Head of the Music Editorial Board of the Compilation Council. Vietnam Encyclopedia, Member of the Central Committee of Literary-Arts Criticism, Chairman of the Directing Council of the Vietnam Symphony Orchestra and a member of the 10th National Assembly, member of the Appraisal Council Performing Arts Ministry of Culture and Information.
He graduated from the University of Pedagogy of Literature the first class at the end of 1953. In 1963, he became the first Vietnamese to graduate from the Traicovsky Conservatory of Music. He was also one of the first Vietnamese conductors to found the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra and the Hanoi Conservatory Symphony Orchestra.

He attended high school in the schools during the resistance war in the territory of Inter-Region IV. While in school he was active in music. During the resistance years, Trong Bang was both a guitar player, choreographer and conductor of student bands and choirs.
After graduating from university, he was dispatched by the Inter-regional Arts Association to go to Central Laos to join the cultural team serving the public. After that, he went to Viet Bac again and joined the Central People's Doan Van Cong as the captain of the music team.
