Comrade Le Kha Phieu (1931-2020), is a talented and incorruptible former politician in Vietnam. He held many positions such as a member of the Central Committee of the Party; Member of the Politburo Standing Committee, Standing Politburo member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Head of the Central Committee for Internal Political Protection; General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam; Secretary of the Central Military Commission (Vietnam). He was also a member of the IX and X National Assembly.
Comrade Le Kha Phieu participated in revolutionary activities from a young age.
+ In 1945 (when he was 14 years old), he joined the local Viet Minh movement and he officially joined the Communist Party Indochina June 19, 1949.
+ In 1950, he officially joined the army and promoted from a private to a company politician and then to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff. Politician, Battalion Politician and then Chief Political Officer of Regiment 66.
+ In June 1961 - 1966, he respectively held the position of Deputy Head, Head of Division 304 Organizational Department, then he was the Deputy Political Commissar, then Political Commissar cum Regiment Commander of the 9th Regiment, Division 304.
+ In 1967, he was assigned with the 9th Regiment to the Tri Thien battlefield, serving as the Regiment's Political Commissar.
+ In 1968, he worked as Head of Organization Department of Tri Thien Military Region.
+ In 1970, he held the position of Deputy Director of Politics of Tri Thien Military Region.
+ In May 1974, he was appointed to hold the position of Director of the Political Department of the Army Corps, rank of Colonel.
+ In 1978, he was Deputy Political Commissar cum Political Director, then Deputy Commander of Political Affairs of Military Region 9, rank of Colonel. At the same time, he also held a civil position as Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Zone IX.
+ In April 1984, he was promoted to Major General, held the position of Political Director, and then Deputy Commander of Politics. President and Political Director, Deputy Secretary of the Personnel Department of the Vietnamese Volunteer Army Command in Cambodia (codenamed Front 719).
+ In August 1988, after Vietnam withdrew its troops from Cambodia, Mr. was promoted to lieutenant general and assigned to the position of Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army.
+ In September 1991, he was the Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army.
+ In 1992, he was conferred the rank of Senior Lieutenant General of the Vietnam People's Army.
With his contributions to the revolutionary cause as well as in peacetime, comrade Le Kha Phieu gained the trust of the Vietnamese people. The Party, State and people elected to hold the position of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam since (1997-2001). During his four years of holding an important position, he took the right measures and directions in anti-corruption work to clean up and strengthen the Communist Party of Vietnam. And he directed the entire Party, people and army to achieve many great achievements in the cause of doi moi, industrialization, modernization, construction and defense of the Fatherland. The people of the country are grateful for the great contributions of the former General Secretary.
At 2:52 am on August 7, 2020, Comrade Le Kha Phieu passed away in Hanoi. He lived to be 89 years old.
