The film brought home the "Best Director" award for Nguyen Hoang Diep at the 16th Bratislava International Film Festival in 2014. This is also the first Vietnamese film. Nam was invited to compete in the official competition in the New Auters category at the AFI FEST Film Festival in Hollywood.
In late November 2014, "Flapping Wings in the Air" won the Special Prize of the Board of Directors. The film also won the Jury Prize at the 3 Continent Film Festival and then 3 major prizes at the 2015 Friborg Film Festival and the Bronze Drum Award. for the best film at VIFF…
On August 11, 2016, Nguyen Hoang Diep was honored to receive a congratulatory letter from the French Minister of Culture Audrey AZOULAY on the official award. g gave her the Knight Order of Literature and Arts. This is one of the four ministerial medals of the French Republic.
