Best remembered as co-founder and drummer of the jazz and R&B fusion group the Yellowjackets, he received a Grammy Award for the band's 1987 songwriting "And you know it." Also As one requested session musician, he has worked with Eric Clapton, Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, and many other famous musicians.
He co-authored the Pointer Sisters hit track "Uh-Uh."

He was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Tragically, he died in his late fifties, having suffered a brain aneurysm while performing at a California jazz club.
