Famous for helping to form the Intercollegiate Soccer Association and for creating and squabbling the sport's stream, the camp is considered the father of the American game of football. During the late 19th century, he coached three championship-winning national football teams at Yale University and continued to coach at Stanford.
In addition to his coaching career, he is a prolific sports journalist. During his lifetime, he wrote nearly three dozen books and more than two hundred articles.
