Diep Van Cuong, self-titled Tho Son, alias Yen Sa, pen name Cuong Si, is a Vietnamese journalist and teacher from the 20th century. He was Vuong Hong Sen as "representative of the intellectual group" at that time.
As a child, his family was poor, but he was a very studious person. He was allowed by the French colonial government in Cochinchina to study at the Bishop d'Adran school. After graduating from high school, he was granted a scholarship by the French colonial government to study in Alger in the early 1880s. After that, he passed the baccalaureate exam in France with Nguyen Trong Quan.
After Returning home, he was granted French citizenship by the French government, and assigned to teach at the Chasseloup Laubat School (known as the "National School"). During this time, he returned to live in his own home in An Nhon village, Go Vap district, Gia Dinh district (that is Ho Chi Minh City today). In April 1886, Paul Bert was appointed as the Ambassador General of China - Tonkin. He was assigned to the palace to teach French to King Dong Khanh instead of Truong Vinh Ky. In May 1887, the Hue court established a French language school called So Hanh Nhon. Diep Van Cuong was appointed Head Teacher (principal), the rank of Inspector. He married Princess Thien Niem, the daughter of Thoai Thai Vuong, Cardinal, sister of King Duc Duc and biological aunt of Prince Nguyen Phuc Buu Lan.
After King Dong Khanh's death, Ky Ky. The House did not dare to decide on the successor, so it consulted with the Nunciature. Diep Van Cuong is working here, so he assumes the responsibility of translating. Legend has it that he was the one who helped his wife's nephew Prince Buu Lan become king.
After Thanh Thai ascended the throne, Diep Van Cuong returned to Saigon, working as the Head of the Translator for Soai Phu Cochinchina. His wife remained in Hue. In 1894, she gave birth to a son, Diep Van Ky. Around the end of 1890s, he officially entered the journalism profession, worked with Gia Dinh newspaper, Nhut Trinh Cochinchine, Thong type course, and assumed the position of Chairman of Phan Yen newspaper.
When Phan Yen announced the closure, he joined political activities. He ran for election and became a member of the District Council Ben Tre Province, then the Southern District Council. Ky. In 1908, he held the position of Gia Dinh to report on his behalf Nguyen Van Giau, according to the decree of the Governor of South Louis Alphonse Bonhoure on September 20, 1908.
In 1929, he died at the age of 67.
