Sozzani was raised in a small city of Northern Italy at Mantua, in the 1970s she was studying philosophy and literature at the University of Mantua. In 1973, after graduating, she started working at Vogue Bambini in 1976 marking the beginning of her career. She then became a famous director of Lei in 1980 and of Per Lui in 1982. In the late 1980s, Sozzani became editor of Vogue Italia. A few years later, she began editing Conde Nast Italia. and was appointed editor of Conde Nast Italia in 1994. In the early 90s, she was the one who discovered and created the phenomenon of supermodels in Italian society at that time
