Leslie Conway "Lester" Bangs is an American music journalist, critic, author, and musician. He is known for writing for Creem and Rolling Stone magazines and is known as a leader for the rock genre, as a rock music critic perhaps as a music critic. Jim DeRogatis called him "America's greatest rock.
Bangs died in New York City on April 30, 1982, at the age of 33, from an overdose of painkillers.
 
 

Young / Before famous

In 1969, Bangs became a freelance writer after reading an advertisement in Rolling Stone, when he was only 21 years old. His first part was published in Rolling Stone. Bangs began freelance work for Detroit Creem in 1970. In 1971, he wrote a special article for Creem Alice Cooper, and soon after. There he moved to Motor City. Named editorial Creem in 1971, Bangs fell in love with Detroit, calling it "the rock of only hope," and stayed there for five years.
During the 1970s, Bangs and several other writers at Creem began to use punk rock, referring to the genres of 60s bands.
After leaving Creem in 1976, he wrote for The Village Voice, Penthouse, Playboy, New Musical Express, and many other publications.
Bangs is also an active musician in the rock genre. In 1976, he and Peter Laughner recorded and sound in Creem offices.
In 1977, Bang recorded and sang as a solo artist single Let It Blurt/Live released in 1979.
In 1977 , at the famous New York City nightclub, after Lester talked to guitarist Mickey Leigh, he Joey Ramone the idea for a band called "Birdland" came to fruition.
In 1980 Lester Bangs traveled to Austin, Texas, and met a rock group "The Delinquents". In early May of the same year, they recorded an album called "Lester Bangs and Delinquents", rights Jook Savages on Brazos, released the following year.
In 1990 Mekons released the EP F. U.N. 90 with Bangs' rhetoric on the song "One Horse Town"
