Nancy Dickerson was a pioneering American radio and television journalist at CBS First Woman Reporter who broke many barriers, such as hosting her own programming and reporting from the Senate floor. . Famous for her journalistic as well as social activism, she later became an award-winning independent producer of documentaries.
October 18, 1997, she passed away. in New York City after complications from a stroke at age 70.
 
 

Young / Before famous

Nancy Dickerson attended Clarke College for two years before transferring to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she graduated in 1948. In 1954 she was hired as a producer for a Capital cloakroom radio show.
Before moving to Washington, DC in 1951, she worked as an elementary school teacher in Milwaukee. In Washington she was a researcher on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. In 1960, she became the first female CBS reporter and became an associate producer of Face the Nation.
In 1970, Nancy Dickerson was a PBS representative interviewing President Richard M. Nixon
Dickerson left the network in 1971 to become an independent broadcaster and producer of daily news programs in Washington. In 1980, she founded the American Television Corporation to produce documentaries for PBS and others.

Family life info

Dickerson experienced two marriages, her first to the industrialist - C. Wyatt Dickerson, in addition to her husband's three children, two more children. Among them is the youngest son John Dickerson, a political reporter for Slate magazine, the political director of CBS News, a White House correspondent for Time magazine and more recently a TV announcer for Face the Nation on CBS. Her first marriage ended in divorce. On February 25, 1989, she remarried John C. Whitehead, former President of Goldman Sachs and President of the Memorial Foundation World Trade Center - who died on May 7. February 2015.
