Young / Before famous

From a young age, Ruth Gruber dreamed of becoming a writer, a dream that was enthusiastically supported by her family. When she was 15, she matriculated to New York University and won a graduate scholarship to the University of Wisconsin-Madison when she was 18. In 1931, she received a scholarship from the Institute of International Education and moved to study in Cologne, Germany. When she was 20 years old, she successfully completed her academic tasks and received a doctorate from the University of Cologne in Germany majoring in Philosophy, Modern English Literature and Art History becoming the youngest person in the world. The world received her doctorate.
Gruber's writing career began in 1932 when she worked for the New York Herald Tribune. During her time with the Herald Tribune, she became the first foreign reporter to fly over Siberia into the Soviet Arctic. She was appointed Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Interior Harold Ickes L during World War II and was the one who rescued a thousand Jewish refugees and wounded American soldiers returning from their home country. Italy returned to the US and at the same time mobilized people to help refugees be allowed to apply for residency in the US.
After the war, she returned to work as a reporter for the New York Herald and continued to protect the rights of the refugees. refugees, Jews
On October 21, 2008, Gruber was honored to receive the National Coalition's medal for free speech protection. In 2016, an exhibition of her photographs titled Ruth Gruber went on display at the Oregon Jewish Museum in Portland.

Ruth Gruber was born into a family of five children of Russian Jewish immigrant Gussie (Rockower) and David Gruber. She was married in 1951 to Philip H. Michaels, a community leader in the region.
