Who is Kurash To Thi Trang?
To Thi Trang was born and raised in a farming family in Son Du village, Nguyen Khe commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi. The female boxer born in 1999 showed her love for sports very early. Since her early days in middle school, she has participated in studying and practicing the Japanese martial art Judo. Trang's passion for martial arts has made her show her qualities and have been recognized and appreciated by the coaches. With support and encouragement from her beloved father, in 2010, she took up sports. Along with Judo, Kurash (Kurash is a traditional martial art of Uzbekistan, with a fighting style similar to Judo and wrestling) is the second martial art that To Thi Trang is passionate about and pursues.
Trang's achievements in both sports are quite similar, such as in judo: Asian youth bronze medal; Gold medal, silver medal of the 2021 national championship, gold medal of the 2022 national team championship... ; in kurash: Silver medal at the 2015 Asian Youth Championship, gold medal at the 2017 World Youth Championship, silver medal at the 2018 Asian Championship...
After more than 6 years of practicing Kurash, she officially stepped on the path of professional competition. Like other athletes, to achieve high results, Trang must spend a lot of time practicing and competing. During the time leading up to SEA Games 31, she was unable to be with her family for more than a year, unable to care for her mother and father - the people who gave wings to her passion for sports. The effort and struggle paid off when on the afternoon of May 10, To Thi Trang was the pioneer with a victory over a Myanmar boxer, then surpassed teammate Vo Thi Thuy Duong. However, after losing to Thailand in the third match, she convincingly won the Philippine athlete, excellently winning her first Gold Medal, "opening the door" for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the 31st SEA Games arena. To Thi Trang's position, her teammates won consecutively, winning 3 more top medals in the weight categories of 52 kg for women, 81 and 90 kg for men on the first day of competition.
Sharing her feelings about being the athlete who won the first Gold Medal for the Vietnam Sports Delegation, To Thi Trang said, "My passion for sports is greatly supported by my family, especially is from dad. Because I wanted my father to be proud of me, I tried very hard. To be able to stand on the podium and receive the glory, I had to practice very hard, try my best in every practice session, and at the same time accept not being able to return to my family for quite a long time. As the first person to win a Gold Medal for my country, I feel very honored, lucky and proud. "
