Tuyen (full name Nguyen Kim Tuyen) is a young singer and songwriter known to the audience through the program Sing My Song 2018 and especially the song Saigon Toi Rain. From a young girl teaching herself Guitar, posting covers on YouTube and guitar-loving communities; Tuyen gradually found her own path in music.
If Saigon Toi Rain once associated Tuyen with the image of a thoughtful, sad and somewhat lonely girl, then recent products show a completely different Tuyen: more energetic, stronger and willing to experiment with Alternative Punk Rock.
Tuyen – the girl behind Saigon Me Rain
Speaking of Tuyen, the two milestones most often remembered by audiences are Saigon Toi Rain and Sing My Song 2018.
In 2018, Tuyen appeared on Sing My Song with the composition Saigon Toi Rain. The song quickly attracted attention thanks to its intimate storytelling, narrative-colored melody, and the very typical emotions of a young person living in the middle of the city. The press at that time also recognized Tuyen as a notable face of Vietnamese Indie music.
Not only is it a contest song, Saigon Toi Rain also became an important mark in Tuyen's artistic journey. The work appeared on Sing My Song 2018's music list and continued to be sought after and listened to by listeners in the following years.
From here, the name Tuyen began to become more widely known in the young and Indie music lovers community.
The story behind Saigon It Rains
The special thing about Saigon Toi Rain lies in the song's long formation process. Tuyen started writing songs while in Saigon. However, it was not until she left the city and went to Da Lat to live for a while that she was able to complete her work.
Distance at that time seemed to become a creative material. While temporarily away from Saigon, the images, people and memories that were once very familiar suddenly became clearer in Tuyen's emotions. The nostalgia for the city has since been transformed into melodies and lyrics.
Notably, Saigon Toi Rain is one of Tuyen's most time-consuming compositions. It took her about 3 months to complete the song - significantly longer than the process of composing previous songs.
Perhaps because it was formed from distance and nostalgia, Saigon Toi Rain has a very unique feeling. It is not simply a story about a rain, but also a story about the feelings of loneliness, longing and experiences of a young person in a large city.
Sing My Song 2018 – an important turning point in your career
Participating in Sing My Song 2018 became a major turning point in Tuyen's career. Not only does she get to bring her compositions to a large audience, but she also has the opportunity to interact with experienced musicians, artists and collaborators.
After the program, Tuyen's path to pursue music professionally also became clearer. She has more experience in composing, producing music and working with other artists. Those experiences helped Tuyen's musical world gradually expand.
