Summer Vacation, Fear of Retirement is a new movie by director Huynh Lap, exploiting the young generation's perspective on history and gratitude to their ancestors' generation. The film mixes humor and spiritual colors familiar in Huynh Lap's works. Summer Vacation, Fear of Retirement officially opens nationwide from August 21, 2026, and there are special screenings from 6:00 p.m. on August 14 and all day August 15 - 16, 2026 in theaters.

Content of the movie Summer Vacation, Fear of Retirement

The film revolves around Tri Binh (Cody Nam Vo), a Gen Z boy who returns to a remote countryside to spend the summer with his grandfather, Mr. Thoi (Merited Artist Cao Minh), a veteran who has lived alone for many years.

From the early days, Tri Binh continuously encountered a series of strange phenomena happening around his grandfather. Mysterious warnings from people in the area made him even more confused, forcing him to find the truth behind seemingly inexplicable things.

When the secret about Mr. Thoi is gradually revealed, Tri Binh not only has to face his fear but also learns how to overcome the generation gap to better understand the sacrifices and losses that he and his teammates have experienced.

Intertwining laughter, spiritual colors and difficult situations, Summer Vacation, Fear of Retirement, tells the story of a young person's journey to maturity as he gradually realizes the value of family, memory and national history.

According to director Huynh Lap, the idea of making Summer Vacation, Fear of Retirement was cherished by him right after working on the project Gia Tien's House.

After more than half a year of developing the script, the experiences from major events in the country and the time spent participating in the program Sao Ngu Ngu inspired the male director to tell a story about gratitude and continuity between generations.

Huynh Lap affirmed: "This is not a historical or political film, but a young person's perspective on history".

Therefore, war in the film only appears as a layer of memory to guide emotions, while the focus is still on the journey of connection between grandfather and grandson, between past and present.
