Australian-born English poet whose works include Auto Oracle, When to Bite Twice, and Better Than God. His many literary honors include the Whitbread Poetry Prize and the Australian Literary Society Gold Medal.
He met Jill Neville while traveling from Australia to England in 1951. Neville then made Porter as a character in her 1966 novel The Fall Girl.
